Tryhard

Definition

Someone who puts in excessive effort, especially when the situation doesn't call for it. Very close to 'sweaty' but slightly more negative. A tryhard isn't just trying hard, they're trying hard AND it's kind of annoying. From gaming culture where casual lobbies get ruined by players going full tournament mode.

Translation for Parents

Similar to 'sweaty' but with more eye-roll energy. A tryhard is someone whose effort level is disproportionate to the stakes and it bothers people. Think of the kid who writes five pages for a one-page assignment and then asks if they can present it. That energy.

Examples

Brainrot:

โ€œhe's such a tryhard he brought a powerpoint to a class discussionโ€

English:

โ€œHe's trying way too hard, he made a PowerPoint for a casual class discussionโ€

Brainrot:

โ€œstop being a tryhard its literally recessโ€

English:

โ€œStop taking this so seriously, it's just recessโ€

Mildly embarrassing

This one's been around long enough that adults use it too. You can call your coworker a tryhard and nobody under 40 will blink.
